UP Pep places 3rd in world cheerleading tilt

The Philippine cheerleading team, led by perennial UAAP cheerdance champion University of the Philippines Pep Squad, placed third in the Cheer Mixed category of the 6th Cheerleading World Championships in Hong Kong.
The two-day event held at the Hong Kong Coliseum featured cheerleading teams from China, Chinese Taipei, Ecuador, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Peru, Poland, Slovenia, Thailand, and United Kingdom, apart from the Philippine team.
Team Philippines finished behind powerhouse squads Japan and Thailand in the Cheer Mixed category.
UP professor Eloi Hernandez, who accompanied the team to Hong Kong, expressed satisfaction with the squad’s performance. “Our kids had a perfect run, and we are happy,” Hernandez wrote on her Twitter account.
Team Philippines, which was also comprised of members of the Centro Escolar University and Polytechnic University of the Philippines cheering squads, were making their debut in the competition. The UP Pep Squad was originally slated to participate in the 2009 edition of the tilt, but did not push through with its trip due to lack of funding.
It was an auspicious debut for Team Philippines, which made it past the cut in the first day in all categories in which it participated. Aside from the Cheer Mixed category, the squad also participated in the Cheer Dance, Groupstunt All Female, Groupstunt Mixed, Partnerstunt, Cheer All Female, and Cheer Mixed competitions.

Paliwanag ni SPO2 Rolando Cartalla, "Sindikato ‘to.

Pagbabahagi niya, "Siyempre titipirin mo.
Giit ni Al Panlilio ng Meralco, “We are always after what is best for the customers, and we think there is clamor for prepaid, and we are reviewing that.”

“The encounter took several hours. You cannot discount the possibility that the relatives, pinsan, apo or kapitbahay, will join the firefight,” sabi ni Lieutenant Colonel Randy Cabangbang.
“We have received reports that allegedly our soldiers are being held hostage within the area of temporary stay ng MILF sa Al-Barka,” sabi ni Cabangbang.

VERY WARM ANG ginawang pag-welcome kay Mariel Rodriguez bilang karag-dagang co-host ni Willie Revillame sa Wil Time Bigtime last Saturday.
It’s been several weeks na talagang nahirapan daw si Mariel before coming up with her final decision na lumipat sa TV5.
And with that, naniniwala ka-ming Mariel just did the right decision, kung saan magiging masaya siya at hindi niya pagsisisihan.

Trending news#: 13 Mario Maurer to headline Philippine fashion week!

MANILA, Philippines – Local apparel brand Penshoppe recently confirmed that for their Philippine Fashion Week show to be held on October 29, 2011 at SMX, Thai superstar Mario Maurer has agreed to strut the runway as the show’s final reveal.
This latest development was confirmed by Penshoppe Brand Director Alex Mendoza who said, “Our theme for Fashion Week aptly called INVASION represents the thrilling new changes happening to the brand on its 25th year and we are very excited to see a massive Asian star like Mario Maurer walk the runway for us.”
This October, Mario Maurer is set to arrive in Manila as the latest endorser of Penshoppe. Following the brand’s highly successful series of top trending international campaigns, Maurer’s selection (after British actor Ed Westwick from the popular series Gossip Girl) marks the arrival of the local apparel group as a force to be reckoned with not only in the local circles but also in the international scene.
“Ed Westwick for Penshoppe opened a lot of doors for us. Now Mario will not only make Penshoppe a bigger fashion name in the Philippines – he will also help grow the market in Southeast Asia, especially knowing that he has gained a wide following among the regional fans,” explains Mendoza.
“While Ed represents the international jet set, Mario will represent a wider audience composed of the younger set.”

Meanwhile, the Philippines’ leading broadcast network ABS CBN has been awarded the exclusive rights to air the highly anticipated Philippines visit of the Thai heartthrob. Among the films that boosted Maurer’s name to public consciousness was The Love of Siamreleased in 2007. He also starred in the sleeper hit Crazy Little Thing Called Love that surprisingly gave ABS CBN high ratings during its premiere on local television.

Trending news#: 11 De Lima opposes lowering of age of criminality

MANILA, Philippines - Justice Secretary Leila De Lima has expressed opposition to proposals on lowering the age of criminal responsibility from 15 years old to 9 years old.
In a message delivered at a joint Department of Justice (DOJ), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) media forum in Quezon City with the theme "Understanding the Children in Conflict with the Law," De Lima stressed that the recent spate of crimes involving minor offenders should not be used to justify proposed amendments on the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006.
"If the criminal syndicates are considered the problem, neither lowering the age nor putting children in jail is the solution. Arresting and putting children to prison is easier than cracking a whip at a syndicate. It is faster than providing programs and infrastructure to prevent them from offending. But it will not address the causes of offending," she said.
"Lowering the age will violate the very essence of justice if children who have been exploited by criminal syndicates are penalized instead of the adults who had exploited them," she added.
De Lima said it is government's responsibility to pursue and put the adult criminal syndicates behind minor offenders to jail.
There are moves to lower the age of criminal responsibility due to the recent arrests of children in conflict with the law involving incidents such as robbery and rape. The suspects in these crimes were arrested but were turned over to the DSWD because they cannot be prosecuted.
Under the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act or Republic Act(RA) No. 9344, a child 15 years old or below at the time of the commission of the offense shall be exempt from criminal liability and only subjected to an intervention program.
Child offenders are victims, too
De Lima said the community, especially parents, schools, and mass media have a major role to play in helping children stay out of crimes.
"These children are victims of circumstances beyond their control, of chronic poverty and alarming culture of violence rampant in a child's home, school and community. Hence, children should be treated as individuals with problems who need help and need to be provided with appropriate assistance and services, to ensure the full protection of their rights to survival, protection, development and participation," she said.
The justice chief particularly highlighted the role of mass media in preventing juvenile delinquency. She also called on media practitioners to maintain the highest standards in reporting about minor offenders.
"I urge the media practitioners to maintain the highest critical and professional standards when reporting cases on children in conflict with the law. I urge them to provide a balanced and evidence based reports about children so that they are not subjected to inappropriate and sensationalized publicity."
And while she disagrees with moves to lower the age of criminal responsibility of children in conflict with the law, De Lima said minor offenders should still not be completely free of accountability, only that a "different or special justice system for them is prescribed by law."
"The Juvenile Justice System will still hold them accountable through child appropriate procedures that will see through their atonement.
"Within the framework of restorative justice, RA 9344 provides that children exempt from criminal responsibility shall undergo appropriate intervention programs, designed in consideration of several factors such as circumstances of the child, the needs of the child, the influence of the family and environment on the grown of the child, and the ability and willingness of the parents/guardians to guide and supervise the child," De Lima said.
De Lima called on the public, especially since October is National Children's Month, to "take on his and her duty to promote children's rights and support the law.

trending issue#: 9 Baguhang teen actor, unprofessional at sinungaling!
